Johny Moose Backwater Farm is located on the banks of the Meenachil river within the limits of Aymanam village made famous by Arundhati Roy's Booker Prize winning novel 'The God of Small Things'. The 12 acre property is owned and operated by Mr Johny Moose and family and has been the family home for more than 100 years. Our main produce is fish, followed by ducks, duck eggs, coconuts, bananas and several local fruits and vegetables. Of late we have also ventured into the tourism industry, building a cottage to rent out and partnering with an adventure tourism company to provide Kayaking, Stand Up Paddling and Cycling from the farm.
Johny Moose Backwater Farm has been operating as a fish farm for over 15 years and the property gradually developed over time. Johny Moose Backwater Farm has been operating as a fish farm for over 15 years and the property gradually developed over time. The farm owner was recipient of 'Best Fresh Fish Farmer - Kerala State' Award in the year 2013. We entered tourism industry in the year 2016 with Plunge Adventures operating from the farm providing various adventure activities and Ullasakottaram - our farm stay, was opened in the year 2017. The farm was awarded 'Superhost' by Airbnb since inception.
Being a backwater area and most of the farm property being wetland, our main crop is, you guessed it - Fish! We mainly grow tilapia in the farm. There are also ducks for eggs and meat along with coconuts, bananas and other local fruits and vegetables. We have started home delivery on select products as per availability
The guest accomodation, 'Ullasakottaram' or as we lovingly call 'Kingdom of Lazyness', which overlooks our 5 acre private pond, was built after demands from friends and family. Now we have opened it to the outside world as a means of additional income to the farm and an opportunity to meet new people. Hence the landscape and atmosphere
Hence the landscape and atmosphere is more natural and functional, suiting a farm and not a luxury resort. Simple yet beautiful!
We are associated with Plunge Adventures for providing guided Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Board and Cycling from the farm. Plunge Adventures has been topping the 'Things To Do In Kumarakom' of Tripadvisor since 2018. You can check them out at www.plungeadventures.com
The farm is also available for hosting small parties. Ullasakottaram is a 1000 sq ft building and can converted to a small hall if required, and with couple of 2 tonne air conditioners it can accomodate a fair number of people with ease.
Due to popular demand for more space we have added two new river side rooms which can accomodate 4 people in total. The rooms are set facing the Meenachil river, where the slow flowing current will give you perfect company for a lazy day off.
